About the rescuer and the rescue story

When priest Antanas Skeltys baptized Izaokas Glik, the monastery teacher Jonas Stašaitis became his godfather. When those around him started to be interested in Isaac's origin, Jonas Stašaitis took Izaokas to his parents Juozas and Agnė Stašaitis’ in the village of Patolupis in the Raseiniai district. The Stašaitis’ received Izaokas very friendly, and told the neighbors that he was a relative's child, an orphan. Izaokas did not have to hide with Stašaitis’, the boy spoke Lithuanian well and communicated with the village children. As the front approached, the village of Patolupis was on the front lines, the buildings of Stašaičiai were damaged, so Juozas Stašaitis took his daughters and Izaokas to their relatives in Šimkaičiai village in the Jurbarkas district. A few days later, many Germans arrived in the town, the German army headquarters was located in the residential building, the owners were ordered to live in a barn. Fortunately, Izaokas did not arouse suspicion. Soon, the German soldiers, under pressure from the Red Army, withdrew and Juozas Stašaitis took the children home, where, to Izaokas unspeakable joy, his mother was already waiting for him.
