About the rescuer and the rescue story

Pranas was just three years old when his father Juozas died. The boy was left to live with his mother and two older brothers. When his mother Elena hid Jews in their home, Pranas helped his mother and the people she was hiding as much as he could. During the post-war period, Pranas and his older brother Bronislovas both joined the resistance against the Soviet invaders. Pranas took part in the storming of Berlin and ended the war at the Japanese border. He returned to his homeland in 1946 and, like his brother, took part in the post-war resistance. Pranas Laurinavičius was killed at the age of 25 in a shootout on 28 July 1949 in the village of Trakučiai, Girkalnis parish.
